Whistle for Mobile
Privacy policy
Whistle is a voice-to-text recorder that runs entirely on your device. Audio, intermediate processing, and the resulting transcripts (including any automatic translations to English) stay on your device unless you choose to share or copy them. The app does not need an internet connection for transcription and does not send your speech or text to any server we operate.
We hold no app data on our servers. If you email us for support we use that message only to reply and handle your request, as set out in section 11.
01Who we are
The company behind Whistle is BlazingBanana Ltd, a software company registered in England and Wales, company number 15329501. References to "we", "us" and "our" in this policy mean BlazingBanana Ltd.
Application. Whistle (referred to as the "Service") is a voice-to-text recorder that transcribes speech on your device.
Contact. [email protected]
BlazingBanana Ltd is the data controller for the purposes of UK GDPR and EU GDPR. We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer because the app does not process personal data on our servers.
02Scope
This policy covers the Whistle mobile app. It does not cover our websites, social profiles, app store listings, or emails you send to us. Email handling is described in section 11.
03What we collect
From our side, we collect nothing. Whistle does not transmit, store, sell or share any personal data or usage data on our servers or any third-party servers as part of normal use of the app.
The app has no user accounts and no registration. There are no servers that hold app data and no cloud logs. The app does not include analytics or telemetry of any kind. We do not embed Google Analytics, Firebase, Crashlytics, Sentry, or AppCenter. The app does not perform remote crash reporting. The app does not include advertising or tracking software, so there is no IDFA, GAID, or device fingerprinting. We do not receive your IP address, device identifiers, or location data. No audio or transcript content is sent to us for processing.
For the app to be useful, your device may locally store:
- audio recordings you create in the app
- transcriptions and any automatic translations to English
- a history list so you can revisit, share, or delete past recordings
This local material remains on your device and is under your control. We do not receive it and we cannot access it.
04How Whistle works
- On-device speech processing. When you tap record, Whistle accesses your microphone, captures audio, and converts it to text on your device. If translation is enabled, that translation also runs on your device. Audio and text are not uploaded for processing.
- Language auto-detect. The app can detect the language of your speech locally to choose an appropriate model or behaviour. The result is not sent to us.
- Automatic translation to English. Where translation is supported it runs on your device. We do not pass text or audio to external translation services.
- Local history. Whistle keeps a history of your recordings and transcriptions so you can review, copy or share them later. This history exists only on your device.
- Sharing and exporting. If you choose to share or copy a transcription, your device passes the selected text or file to whichever destination you pick (for example email, messaging or a cloud drive). The privacy policies of those services and your platform settings then apply.
- Erasing data. You can delete individual recordings or clear the in-app history at any time. Uninstalling Whistle removes its local data from your device.
05Permissions and device features
- Microphone. Used to capture audio while you are recording. Recording only happens when you start it in the app.
- Local storage. Used to store audio, transcriptions, translations, and your in-app history on your device.
- Operating system services. Depending on your platform, Whistle may rely on built-in speech recognition or text services that run locally on the device. Those services are governed by the operating system vendor's terms.
Whistle does not request contacts, camera, location, or network permissions to perform its core function. The app is designed to work offline and does not need an internet connection for transcription.
06No internet, cookies, or trackers
Whistle does not use mobile data or Wi-Fi for transcription or translation, and it does not open network sockets for those features. The app does not set cookies, beacons, or identifiers, and it does not embed analytics or advertising libraries.
08Data retention
- On our servers. None. We hold no app data.
- On your device. Audio recordings, transcriptions, translations and history are kept for as long as you choose to keep them. We do not sync or back up any of this material to our servers.
You can delete individual items from inside the app, clear its local data through your device settings, or uninstall Whistle to remove all local information from your device.
09Security notes
- Device-level protection. Your audio and transcripts are protected by your device's security, including its passcode, biometric unlock, disk encryption and any operating system isolation between apps.
- Local-only processing. Because transcription and translation run on your device, the content of your recordings is not transmitted to our servers.
- Physical access. Anyone with access to your unlocked device or its backups may be able to read recordings and transcripts that you have not deleted.
- No method is perfect. Keeping processing on the device reduces data exposure, but no system is fully immune to compromise of the underlying device or operating system.
10Children's privacy
Whistle is not directed to children under 13. The app does not send usage data or content to our servers. If a child contacts us by email and you would like that communication deleted, please email [email protected].
11When you contact us
If you email us for support or feedback, we process that email only to respond to you and to keep basic records of the conversation, including sender, content and timestamps. We will not add you to marketing lists, and we will not sell or share these communications. You can ask us to delete your support emails unless we are required to retain them for legal reasons. This handling is separate from the app, which does not send data to us during normal use.
12Your rights
Under UK GDPR, EU GDPR, the California Privacy Rights Act, and similar laws, you can request access, correction, deletion, portability, or restriction of your personal data, and you can opt out of any sale or sharing of it. Because the Whistle app does not process personal data on our servers, our usual response to a request about app usage is that we hold no data about you from your use of the app.
You can contact us at any time at [email protected]. If you are in the UK or the EU, you may also lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
13International transfers
The app does not transfer Whistle data to us, so there are no international transfers as part of normal use. If you email us, your email is routed through standard email infrastructure and is handled as described in section 11.
14Third-party platforms and operating systems
App stores and operating system vendors, such as Apple, Google and device makers, may collect their own diagnostics or store-level analytics. That collection is outside Whistle and is governed by their policies and your platform settings. Whistle itself does not integrate third-party analytics or advertising libraries, and where platform analytics for the app can be disabled we do not enable them.
15Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above. Because the app does not send data to us, we have no in-app contact list to notify, so please review this page from time to time.
